TCITY - a vast, automated industrial complex in twenty-second century Teesside.  Along its enclosed corridors move the citizens - their lives negated by total automation to a dreary and purposeless leisure, unaware of the world outside the corridors, their pleasures dominated by the endless erotic fantasy of the tri-d screen.

But outside Tcity, along the starkly beautiful coast, live executives like Jan Caspol: a priviliged group who, with the aid of unlimited resources, artificially enhanced Qs and sophisticated control techniques, mastermind the running of Tcity and enjoy the best material and intellectual delights a prosperous world can offer.
