Apollo
17 Launch
A
Saturn V
rocket
streaks
toward
space on
the night
of
December
17, 1972,
carrying
the Apollo
17 crew,
the last
astronauts
to explore
the Moon.
Leaving
the lunar
surface,
Commander
Gene
Cernan
said
"we
leave as
we came,
and, God
willing,
we shall
return,
with peace
and hope
for all
mankind."
NASA is
striving
toward
that goal
with a
bold new
Vision for
Space
Exploration,
which
calls for
renewed
explorations
of the
Moon as
well as
journeys
to Mars
and
beyond. |
